    Default Holmedale

I am researching my husbands family who lived in Lincolnshire. My 'brickwall' is Sarah Elizabeth Fletcher (known as Lizzie) born 1860 to the Rev'd Thomas and Emily Fletcher (formerly Cussons).

On the 1933 Directory for Lincolnshire there is a Miss Fletcher (no Christian name) listed as residing at: Holmedale, Martin, Lincoln. Could this be 'Lizzie Fletcher' and could this address possibly be the present Garden Centre?

Her younger sister Frances Lucilla Fletcher was living at The Retreat, Saltfleetby St Peter at this time.

Help and/or guidance would be gratefully received.

    Hi,
Thank you so much for replying to my request.
Does your mum remember the Christian names of the Fletchers who lived at Holmedale?
Even if the Fletchers who lived there are not 'ours' - at least knowing that fact will stop me researching the wrong Tree.
    Regards,
    tommo

    Hi,
Thank you for your prompt reply to my query. The names Eric and Gerald don't ring any bell at the moment - but at least I now have 'someone' to look for.
With thanks to you and your mum.
    Regards,
    tommo.

    Hi
I've just read your post about your attempts to research your husband's family history. We are the present owners of Holmdale House in Martin. Our understanding is that the Fletcher family (ie Eric, Gerald and his brother Hugh etc) started running the farm here in the 1950s - prior to which this branch of the family were farming from Moor Farm (also in Martin). At the beginning of the last century, it's thought that the Fletchers were definitely at Holmdale - I've met the grandson of Mr and Mrs Skinner, who farmed at Holmdale, but had left the farm by the time Mrs Skinner died in 1933. A neighbour remembers there being someone at Holmdale, certainly in the 1950s before Eric Fletcher arrived with his family, whom he only ever knew as Auntie Maud. Gerald Fletcher still lives locally.
I hope this is of some help.

    Hi,
I've only just seen your post ref my request for help with our Fletcher family.
Sarah Elizabeth Fletcher was born in 1860 and, as far as we know, never married. She lived in America for some years at the turn of the century - looking after her mothers brother John Cussons. He died in 1912 and we've been told that Sarah Elizabeth went to live in France for a while. I haven't found any trace of her after 1912. I would like to be able to 'close' her part of the Family Tree but haven't been able to find any reference to her death. I had my fingers crossed that the 'Miss Fletcher' living at Holmdale in 1933 might just be 'our' Lizzie Fletcher.
    Regards,
    tommo

After some years of searching I've finally found the death ref. for Sarah Elizabeth Fletcher. Her death was registered in Paris in 1943......

Thank you to the kind folk on this Forum who replied to my query.
    regards,
    tommo
