I am researching PORTAS families in Lincolnshire. I do have some information on this family. I have as Samuel's parents - William PORTAS and Ann STAPLES m. 19 Aug 1800 Timberland. They had 8 children: Edward 1803, Peter 1804, William 1805, Andrew 1807, Mary 1811, Samuel 1814, David 1816, Joseph 1824 -- parishes baptized in were: Martin, Martin in the Fen, Blankney, Timberland. Please keep in mind, you should verify this information for yourself. My sources are three other researchers, the IGI, and census records. I would be pleased if you contact me off the message board. I would like to share information with you.
There is some question if the PORTERS are the same families as the PORTAS. I have seen my 3x great grandfather's PORTAS surname written as PORTERS -- I believe it is the Lincolnshire dialect that tends to make a recorder spell the name the way he hears it from who ever it is pronouncing it.

I am tracing my family history and interested in information on the Porters/Portas from Martin& Timberland.
My Great Great Great grandfather was Samuel Porters (Born C1816 in Martin ) who married Mary Blackburn also from Martin.
One of their son's was William who married Mary Neal.
If anyone can shed any more light on this family I would be very interested
